Galerie Gisela Capitain is pleased to announce Zweigstelle Capitain IX, the ninth edition of its temporary exhibition project. Taking place once again at the prestigious Palazzo Degas in Naples, within the spaces of C.A.S.A. Centro delle Arti della Scena e dell’Audiovisivo, Zweigstelle Capitain IX will present two special exhibitions.

The exhibition Martin Kippenberger. Per Pasta ad Astra traces Kippenberger’s multifaceted and ongoing relationship with Italy as part of his artistic and personal life, the idea of the ever-present German 'Italiensehnsucht'.

In late 1976, Martin Kippenberger moved to Florence with the aim of becoming an actor. When his wish did not take off as planned, he turned toward becoming an artist and painter, culminating in his first painting series, Uno di voi, un tedesco in Firenze (1976/77).

Fifty years later, Martin Kippenberger has arrived in Naples. Per Pasta ad Astra revisits his engagement with Italian culture and everyday aesthetics, marked by irony, lightness, and a sharply observant, critical eye – concerns that ran throughout his entire oeuvre during his lifetime. The exhibition is accompanied by a publication.

At the same time, the gallery will celebrate its 40th anniversary. The exhibition
 40 Years Galerie Gisela Capitain traces the gallery’s history since 1986, unfolding artists’ relationships, formative moments, exhibitions, and projects through a rich selection of publications, catalogues, LPs, and other ephemera produced over the course of its four decades.
