Coinciding with the 40th anniversary of Galerie Gisela Capitain, this group exhibition consists of works by artists who employ methods of reference as part of their practice. For a younger generation, citation has become almost unavailable, with a constant of visual material arriving already mediated and references accumulating without hierarchy.

The title refers to the physical distance between the centres of adjacent pixels on a screen, a measure of how discrete points combine to form an image. This becomes a way of thinking about proximity between the works on view and the things they reference. Each practice bears proximity to an existing image, object, material or history, carrying traces of the source into another context. From these points of contact, new material begins to form, with meaning produced through citation and recombination.
