Alvin Curran

Alvin Curran is an American composer, sound artist, writer, and educator who has lived in Rome for many years. Over the course of his vast career, he has created sound installations, solo performance pieces, radio works, choreographic works, environmental concerts, and music for string quartets, chamber ensembles, and saxophone quartets. Many of his works combine acoustic instrumentation with electronics and taped/sampled sounds, including voices, fog horns, and sounds from nature such as wind, water, and animal noises. He is the co-founder with Frederic Rzewski, Allan Bryant and Richard Teitelbaum of the Roman free improvisation group Musica Elettronica Viva.

Marcus Schmickler

Marcus Schmickler lives in Cologne. He is a composer of contemporary and electronic music; his work lies at the crossroads of electronic music and ensemble composition, performance and science. Performed on stages of international importance, his multichannel works open up spaces never heard before. From Shepard scale tones to ring modulations, Schmickler elaborates on their specific compositional potential, deepens the acoustic exploration of data sonification and otoacoustic emissions. Schmickler composes contemporary electronic music texts that are published by MusikTexte, among others, and works that appear in some 50 publications. Since 2010 he has taught at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson (New York), Calarts in Valencia (California) as well as at Robert Schumann University in Düsseldorf.
